About the Grant

Under the Scottish Government National Test Programme, farmers can claim £30 per hectare for soil sampling to help Scotland become a global leader in sustainable and regenerative agriculture.

The grant covers basic soil nutrient tests (P, K, Mg, Ca, pH) as well as a comprehensive soil carbon stock baseline from Agricarbon, ‘the gold standard’ of soil carbon testing.

Having a high-quality soil carbon baseline allows you to measure the difference you make by implementing farming practices that restore organic carbon to the soil. With a baseline in place, you can choose to sell soil carbon benefits to your customers and their contribution to a Net Zero supply chain or to carbon offset payment schemes now or in the next few years.

Eligibility

• Claims can be made for up to 20% of your Region 1 land each year, from 2022 through to 2025. After three years, this will have fully repaid the costs of baselining 60% of your Region 1 land. After 2025, the scheme will be reviewed, and further payments may be claimable to cover 100% of your Region 1 land.
  
• Agricarbon cannot guarantee your eligibility for grants; the farmer needs to check scheme details before claiming.
  
• Agricarbon does not operate a carbon credit scheme but a list of carbon offset project developers can be found through the links above. Agricarbon cannot guarantee the farmer’s success in selling their carbon to credit schemes or customers.
  
• You must initiate a farm carbon audit or have had one completed in the last 3 years. Grant payments for farm carbon audits and development costs are also available under the scheme via Scottish Government.
  
• You must be farming on Region 1 land and the baseline must cover a minimum of 50ha.
  
• You must be registered for funding with Scottish Government Rural Payments and Inspection Division
